Mrs. Rees was born May 2, 1922 in Ira to Russell and Laura Richardson Milliken and had been a resident of Mitchell County since 1936. She married Choppy Rees on April 26, 1941 in Westbrook. She was a homemaker and a member of the Westbrook Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Charle Louis "Choppy" Rees of Westbrook; a daughter, Glenda "Sis" Currie of Henderson; two sons, "Dink" Rees and "Jug" Rees, both of Colorado City; two sisters, Vaurine Smith of Big Spring and Vera Lee Hunter of Marble Falls; two brothers, Russell Milliken of Burnett and Bill Milliken of Coahoma; eight grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.3

Vaurine Dorothy Milliken was born on 2 October 1920 at Ira, Scurry County, Texas.1,2 She was the daughter of Russell Franklin Milliken Sr. and Laura Edna Richardson. She married Ozro Allison, son of Samuel Rufus Allison and Dora A Cagle, on 18 November 1939 at Colorado City, Mitchell County, Texas.1,3 She filed an application (# 2237) at the Freestone County Court for permission to make an oil, gas and mineral lease as the legal guardian of Robert and Billie Milliken. This was part of the Phoebe Wells survey that their mother, Edna Milliken, received from a deed filed on 16 Jul 1927 (Vol. 87, Pg. 128) on 11 August 1947 at Fairfield, Freestone County, Texas.4 She and Edgar Richardson were mentioned in the Fairfield Recorder (Fairfield, Texas). Edgar tranferred, by warranty deed, the 302 acres of the Phebe Wells land grant to his niece Vaurine Allison. on 3 August 1950.5 She was was a charter member of the Forsan Methodist Church in November 1950 at Forsan, Howard County, Texas. She married Alvin H. Smith on 23 October 1976 at Texas. Vaurine was a member of the Retired Senior Citizens, Chamber Tourist Center, and was an active volunteer in the Kentwood Community Center, where she was a member of the gospel singing group. She had been a legislative reporter for the AARP for a number of years.
Vaurine had worked at Craigs Grocery Store in Forsan and then in the cafeterias in the Coahoma schools. She was a member of Coahoma United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons Preston Duane Allison of Austin and Rodney Allison of El Paso; one sister, Vera Lee Hunter of Marble Falls; two brothers, Russell Milliken of Florence and Bill Milliken of Coahoma; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.
