     Martin Douglas Shuler also went by the name of Doug.2,3 He was born on 14 December 1956 at Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana.1,2 He was the son of Wayne Franklin Shuler and Mary Eileen Brouse.1 He married Karen Leigh Barnes on 16 December 1978 at Lomer, Switzerland County, Indiana.4,2 He died on 3 January 2025 at Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, at age 68.2

Mr. Martin Douglas "Doug" Shuler, age 68 of Vevay, Indiana at Sandy Beach near Brooksburg, entered this life on December 14, 1956 in Indianapolis, Indiana at Methodist Hospital. He was the loving son of Wayne Franklin "Bud" and Eileen Mary Brouse Shuler. He was raised in Indianapolis and Vevay, Indiana and graduated in 1976 from Switzerland County High School. On December 16, 1978, he was united in marriage to Karen Leigh Barnes at his parents' home in Vevay, Indiana. This happy union of 46 years was blessed with two daughters, Heather and Holly. He last worked for Archer Services as a group home care-giver for four years. He previously worked at U.S. Filter in Madison for 10 years and for 15 years with Dow Corning. He also worked with East and West Brook contractors with Dow Corning. For 15 years, he operated a construction company known as D&S Construction and enjoyed being a carpenter. Doug truly enjoyed life, either by camping, fishing, hunting, making crafts, making jewelry, collecting arrowheads, off roading, riding motorcycles or boating. He was an awesome cook and loved to cook for anyone. With family always first, Doug loved his friends and enjoyed fellowship in the motorcycle club. He was raised Catholic but now was a faithful member of the Brooksburg Baptist Church. He and Karen enjoyed their home at Sandy Beach for the past 43 years where family and friends were always welcome. Doug was a personality larger than life in presence and spirit. He will be greatly missed in his family and community. Doug died on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 2:18 p.m. at the Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.

Doug will be missed by his loving wife of 46 years, Karen Leigh Barnes Shuler of Vevay, Indiana; his loving daughters, Heather Brooks and her husband, Derek of Brooksburg, Indiana, Holly Shuler of Brooksburg, Indiana; his adoring grandchildren, Kodie, Trinidie, Autumn, and Makinzie; his sisters, Kathy Hershey and her husband, John of Westfield, Indiana, Donna Lennox Hobson and her husband, Kenneth of Zionsville, Indiana, Yonna Heath and her husband, Jeff of Brooksburg, Indiana, Yolanda Jo Simmons of Madison, Indiana, Yvonna "Yo Yo" Tilley and her husband, Andy of Madison, Indiana; his sisters in law, Pam Barnes of Dupont, Indiana and Mary "Cricket" Shuler of Bon Aqua, Tennessee; his brother in law, Jerry Barnes and his wife, Pat of Madison, Indiana; his aunts, Wauneta Deveary of Madison, Indiana and Mary Parker and her husband, Gary of Sarasota, Florida; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Franklin "Bud" Shuler, died May 26, 1993, his mother, Eileen Mary Brouse Shuler, died July 24, 1998, his brother, Anthony David "Tony" Shuler, died March 4, 2013, his brothers in law, James Lennox, died December 27, 2014, Kurt Douglas Barnes, died October 30, 2022, and Kenneth Wayne Barnes, died January 13, 2022, his father in law and his mother in law, William Lamar Barnes, died Sept. 13, 1996 and Beatrice Mae Koivu Barnes, died Nov. 25, 1971.

FUNERAL CEREMONY
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, January 12, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., by Pastor John Hart, Pastor Mark Lee and Pastor Jeff Douglas at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive Madison, Indiana.

VISITATION
Friends may visit Sunday, January 12, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.
