Washington Hixson1

M, b. 16 January 1825, d. 8 May 1908
     Washington Hixson also went by the name of Wash.2 He was born on 16 January 1825 at Tennessee.3,4 He married Sarah Vandergriff, daughter of Joseph Vandergriff, before 1844. He and Sarah Hixson appeared on the census of 24 July 1860 at Hamilton County, Tennessee.5 He and Sarah Hixson appeared on the census of 6 June 1870 at Hamilton County, Tennessee.6 He submitted for and successfully received renumeration from the U.S. Southern Claims Commission for loss of property and supplies taken by the Union Army.

This occupation of land and appropriation of property occurred one month after General William Rosencrans' army was defeated at the Battle of Chickamauga in September of 1863.2 He and Sarah Hixson appeared on the census of 17 June 1880 at Hamilton County, Tennessee; Washington is indicated as having had an arm amputated.3 He died on 8 May 1908 at Hamilton County, Tennessee, at age 83.4
