Newell Luther Richardson Jr.1

     Newell Luther Richardson Jr. was also known as Luther.2 He was born on 15 April 1921 at Antioch, Freestone County, Texas.1,3 He was the son of Newell Luther Richardson Sr. and Nannie Lula Mattox.1

Luther has perfect attendance at the Turlington school for the high second grade class as reported in The Chronicle newspaper.4

He married Agnes Mae Smith, daughter of William Arthur Smith and Beulah Unknown, circa 1944.1 He died on 15 June 2007 at Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas, at age 86.1,3 He was buried circa 18 June 2007 at Freestone County, Texas.1,5 Funeral services were held Monday, June 18 in Arlington for N.L. (Luther) Richardson, Jr., 86, who died Friday, June 15 in Fort Worth. Mr. Ruchardson was born April 15, 1921 in Antioch to Luther and Lula Richardson. He became a master Mason in 1959 and worked for Gulf Oil until his retirement in 1975.
Services were conducted at 10 a.m. at Moore Funeral Home chapel, with Dr. Al Wise officiating.
Burial was at Antioch Cemetery near Farifield, with Bro. Ed Ridge officiating. Mr. Richardson is survived by his wife of 63 years, Agnes Smith Richardson of Kennedale; a son, Ronnie Richardson and wife Rena of Corsicana; daughter Beverly Hepler and husband Jerry of Arlington; Grandcildren and spouses Tina and Brian Sperry of McKinney, and Sean and julie Hepler of Arlington; great-granddaughters Audry, Lauren and Ella Sperry and Morgan Hepler; great-grandson Gage Hepler, due in August; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and seven sisters.3

     Newell Luther Richardson Sr. also went by the name of Luther.3 He was born on 14 January 1873 at Freestone County, Texas.2,4 He was the son of John Whitney Richardson and Mary Louise Cobbs.5 He married Ann Lee Wells, daughter of Samuel G. Wells and Lettie Mariah Garner, on 28 February 1894 at Freestone County, Texas.6 He appeared on the census of 12 June 1900 at Freestone County, Texas.7 He married Nannie Lula Mattox, daughter of Jessie Mattox, circa 1904. He and Nannie Lula Richardson appeared on the census of 4 May 1910 at Freestone County, Texas.8 He and Nannie Lula Mattox appeared on the census of 3 February 1920 at Fairfield, Freestone County, Texas.9 He and Nannie Lula Mattox appeared on the census of 24 April 1930 at Freestone County, Texas.10 He died on 26 February 1966 at Fairfield, Freestone County, Texas, at age 93; Listed as Newell Luther in citation.2,4 N.L. Newell Luther Richardson died at Freestone County Hospital Saturday, Feb. 26, after an extended illiness. Funeral services were held from Capps Chapel Sunday with the Rev. H.L. McKissack of Teague, the Rev. Jack McDaniel and the Rev. mike Reed officiating. Burial followed at Antioch Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Rankin Gilpin, Frank Anderson, Clifton Anderson, Charlie Lambert, Bert Bennett and E.D. Terry.
Mr. Richardson, a retired farmer, was born in Freestone County Jan. 14, 1873, and celebrated is 93rd birthday in January. He was married to the former Mss Lula Hughes (sic. Mrs. Lula Hughes*) Jan 1, 1903. He was the son of the late J.W. and Mary Cobb Richardson.
Survivors include his wife of Fairfield; two sons, W.E. Richardson of Waco and Luther Richardson of Arlington; five daughters, Mae Richardson of Fairfield, Mrs. Floyd Kelly of Quitaque, Mrs. Exa Day of Amarillo, Mrs. Ina Ruth DeBorde of Houston, Mrs. Ada Flippo of Amarillo; two brothers, Fred Richardson of Fairfield and Arthur Richardson of Morton; two sisters, Mrs. Berta Milliken of Fort Worth and Mrs. Jessie Henry of Fairfield; 28 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren and many friends. Three children preceded him in death.
Capps Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

NOTE: *Nannie Lula Maddox's 1st husband was John B. Hughes, married 14 Feb. 1901. He and a son Jesse D. Hughes are buried in the Antioch Cemetery at Luna.4

     Oran Homer Richardson was born on 13 July 1915 at Freestone County, Texas. He was the son of Charlie Harvey Richardson and Mertis Lee Radford. He began military service on 29 May 1941 at Dallas, Dallas County, Texas, enlisted in the Army Air Corp.2 He died on 24 October 1944 at Bashi Straits at age 29. He was buried on 25 October 1944 at Fairfield, Freestone County, Texas.
