Regrets expressed over death of E.O. Tension – Mr. Tenison's gift to the city of Dallas, Tenison Park, exemplified his thoughtfulness of those less fortunate than himself and in establishing a memorial to his son he performed a noteworthy public service, Emil Fretz said following announcement of the death of E.O. Tenison Sunday. "He was my personal friend," Mr. Fretz said, "I knew him since 1870, when he was a little boy and saw him make his way through the world. I have found great pleasure in the fact that he grew to be a big man in every respect he never forgot. He was a most worthy example." Deep personal grief was expressed by Lynn P. Talley, chairman of the board of the Federal Reserve Bank and Federal Reserve agent of the eleventh district, on his return to Dallas Sunday. "My friendship for Mr. Tenison is linked with my experience in banking," Mr. Talley said. "E.O. Tenison was one of the outstanding figures in the business life of Dallas," Nathan Adams president of the American Exchange National Bank, said Sunday night. "His death is a serious loss to Dallas. Mr. Tenison was recognized as one of the ablest bankers of the state and his death at a relatively early age is very unfortunate." "Mr. Tenison will be missed by the citizens and business interests of Dallas very much," J.B. Adoue said. "He was perhaps Dallas' most public-spirited citizen," Judge Henry C. Coke remarked. "He was a leading citizen in every sense of the word and his death is a serious loss to Dallas," Mayor Louis Blaylock said. "Mr. Tenison has done more for Dallas than any man I could name, and at the time of his unfortunate death he was preparing to do more than he had already done. In addition to that, he was my friend," the Mayor remarked. "There is only one opinion in the community," Col. J.T. Trezevant said in commenting upon the death of Mr. Tenison. "His life, when one considers the circumstances surrounding his early years, was in every sense remarkable. He was one of the ablest bankers the state has ever produced and was of a very unusual type exemplifying the fact that the man of energy, industry and intelligence can rise from the bottom of life's ladder to the top of it in this great American Republic."1
