Alice "Becky" Scott (Provided by Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Home)
Alice Rebecca Scifres was born on 5 March 1921 at Little York, Washington County, Indiana.1 She was the daughter of Joe Scifres.1 She married Kenneth Robert Scott, son of Calvin Clementine Scott, on 3 May 1941. She died on 25 March 2017 at Indiana at age 96.1

Alice Rebecca "Becky" Scott

of Greenwood, met her maker on March 25, 2017. She was 96. Becky was born to Joe and Mary Scifres on March 5, 1921 in Little York, Indiana. Becky recorded stories of life growing up on a farm in small-town southern Indiana, and many of her stories told of the resourcefulness of the people and how neighbors shared what they had during the depression.

At age 20, Becky married Kenneth R. Scott. When Kenneth served during WWII, Becky helped the war effort by drilling airplane fuselages and sewing parachutes. She also outfitted officers in Seattle.

Becky and her husband founded Scott's Garden Center and Own Grown Vegetables in northern Indianapolis. With their children, they hand-cultivated 70 acres and sold produce in their store. They were especially known for their fresh sumptuous sweet corn.

Becky loved nature and delighted in telling about animal behavior she observed. She also loved gardening and flowers, and could identify almost any tree, even in winter. Becky enjoyed crocheting and sewing, and she made many clothes for her growing family.

Becky loved words and word puzzles, and even as she aged, she usually worked puzzles more quickly than her children. After her husband's death, she completed and published his eleven hundred page genealogy book on her ancestors. The book included ancestors who had survived the 1812 Pigeon Roost massacre in southern Indiana.

She was a member of Little York Christian Church, Traders Point Christian Church, and Greenwood Christian Church where she served as a Bible Bowl sponsor for ten years.

Becky is survived by daughters Jean Ann Davis and husband Glen, Betty Marie Tosh, Wilma "Scottie" Andre and husband Wayne; sons Donald Edward and wife Betty, John William Scott and wife Theresa Singleton; daughter-in-law Marilyn Scott; and sisters-in-law Iva Scott and best friend since childhood, Irene Scifres. She also leaves 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her son Paul David; two infant daughters, Katie Sue and Mary Ruth; son-in-law Bill Tosh; sister Jane Gamble; and brothers George, Jarvis, and Joseph Scifres.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 29, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Greenwood Chapel, 481 W. Main Street. A funeral service will be held 1:00 Thursday with calling from 12:00 until the service time at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Bethel Cemetery, Indianapolis.1

She was buried on 30 March 2017 at Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana.1
