Carlos A. Jordan Dead
Carlos A. Jordan dies at his home on Water Street in Elizabethtown village on Monday, aged 82 years. Deceased was born in Schroon and in the prime of vigorous manhood he enlisted as a member of Company H of the 5th New York Cavalry which was commanded by General John H. Hammond of Crown Point in those days of the Civil War which tired men's souls. He was a big, strong man possessing 100 percent bravery, taking part in cavalry charges in Marshall Ney would have been proud. Taken prisoner by the Confederates, he was confined in Andersonville prison. When placed in Andersonville he weighed 196 pounds and after a few months there his daily ration of a pint of corn meal and 3 table spoonfuls of molasses had caused his weight to fall to 96 pounds.

Carlos A. Jordan moved to Elizabethtown in 1881 and upon the organization of S C. Dwyer post, No. 528, G. A. R., became a member of it, continuing as such until the organization disbanded a few years ago. He served as the fire warden and assessor for a number of years. He was a member of the Methodist church and a loyal citizen without shadow of turning. His wife died a couple of years ago and one son lives in North Dakota. Another son and a daughter died a few years ago. A grandson, Archer Jordan, has recently completed an engineering course at Syracuse University.
Funeral services were held at his home late Thursday afternoon at two o'clock, interment being at Riverside cemetery.18
