     Martha Juanita Milliken was born on 30 December 1928 at Monroe, Union County, North Carolina.1,2 She was the daughter of Jesse Fearrington Milliken and Juanita Alexander.1 She married William Dexter Benton, son of Claude Benton, circa 1953 at USA.3 She died on 28 November 1998 at Monroe, Union County, North Carolina, at age 69.2

age 69, of Monroe passed away Saturday, (November 28, 1998) at the Union Regional Medical Center in Monroe, North Carolina.

Graveside Memorial Services will be held Tuesday afternoon (December 1, 1998) at 3 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Dr. Charles Williamson, in the Monroe City Cemetery on the Milliken family plot. The family will receive friends at the cemetery Tuesday, immediately after the service.

Mrs. Benton was born December 30, 1928 in Monroe, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Mr. Jesse Fearrington Milliken and the late Mrs. Juanita Alexander Milliken. She was also the niece of the late Misses Ollie, Harriette and Elizabeth Alexander. She attended the Monroe City Schools and Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. And she was a retired kindergarten teacher from First Presbyterian Church in Monroe.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs Elizabeth Benton Bellitto and her husband, Mr. Giacomo Bellitto, of Weddington, North Carolina; three sons, Mr. John Fearrington Benton and Mr. Eric Alexander Benton, both of Monroe, NC, and Mr. William Scot Benton of Huntersville, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Bella and Christopher Bellitto of Weddington, North Carolina; one brother, Mr. John R. Milliken of Monroe; also all of her loving and faithful friends, including her lifelong Monroe friend, Mrs. Ethel Couch and her helpmate and soulmate, Mrs. Hattie Huey of Monroe, North Carolina.

Memorials may be made to the Union County Public Library, 316 East Windsor Street, Monroe, North Carolina 28112; or to Hospice of Union County, 700 West Roosevelt Blvd, Monroe, North Carolina 28110.

McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe is serving the family of Mrs. Benton.

     Martin Harbison Milliken was born on 30 January 1824 at Paducah, McCracken County, Kentucky.2 He was the son of William Milliken and Nancy Ramsey. He married Elizabeth Angeline Gholson, daughter of Govenor Richard Dickerson Gholson and Mary Jane Martin, on 13 January 1848.1 He died on 21 February 1857 at USA at age 33.2

     Martin Horace Milliken was born on 3 July 1852 at Kentucky.1,3 He was the son of Martin Harbison Milliken and Elizabeth Angeline Gholson.1 He lived with Elizabeth Angeline Gholson circa 1858 at Parker County, Texas.4 He married Nancy B. Young, daughter of Colonel William Barnes Young and Nancy Bowen Gillespie, on 12 May 1880 at Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas.5,3 He died on 19 November 1898 at Lewisville, Denton County, Texas, at age 46.1,3,6 He was buried after 19 November 1898 at Lewisville, Denton County, Texas.6

     Martin Horace Milliken was born on 18 October 1883 at USA.1,2 He was the son of William Dickerson Milliken Sr. and Margaret Crockett Young.1 He admitted to the United States Military Academy at West Point on 1 August 1903 at Orange County, New York.3 He resigned from West Point. on 29 December 1904.4 He was a banker for 32 years at the First National Bank beginning in 1920 at Lewisville, Denton County, Texas.5 He was mayor of the town of Lewisville between 1943 and 1947 at Denton County, Texas.6,7,8 He died on 12 January 1952 at Dallas, Dallas County, Texas, at age 68. He was buried on 13 January 1952 at Lewisville, Denton County, Texas.
