Ansel Thornton York1

M, b. 23 September 1902, d. 29 March 1939
     Ansel Thornton York was born on 23 September 1902 at Frost, Navarro County, Texas.1 He was the son of John Thornton York and Mary Hardin.1 He married Sweetie Hammock on 4 July 1924 at Corsicana, Navarro County, Texas.2 He (aka Jesse Brown) was convicted on 20 Nov 1935 of forgery and passing forged instruments. He was sentenced to two years and was transfered on 14 December 1935 at Huntsville, Walker County, Texas.3 He died on 29 March 1939 at Westbrook, Mitchell County, Texas, at age 36.1

     Ansel William York was also known as Bill.2 He http://www.rootsweb.com/. He was born circa 1924 at Frost, Navarro County, Texas.1 He was the son of Fred Edward York and Grace Truman Westfall. He began military service after May 1941 in the United States Air Force.3 He graduated on 15 May 1941 at Westbrook, Mitchell County, Texas.4 He married Clara Mary Gregori, daughter of Sam Joseph Gregori and Fanny Vangelisti, on 6 June 1949 at Fort Benton, Chouteau County, Montana.3 He ended military service on 31 December 1962.3 He died on 25 February 2001 at Texas.3

COAHOMA - Services for Bill York, 77, of Coahoma will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Jeremiah McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in Coahoma Cemetery under the direction of Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral Home. He died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, in a local hospital. He was born July 3, 1923, in Frost. He married Clara Gregori June 6, 1949, in Fort Benton, Mont. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a chief master sergeant on Dec. 31, 1962, after 20 years of service. He was a member of the Air Force Association and St. Joseph Catholic Church.Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Joyce Baumann of Big Spring and Carla of Merrifield, Minn; two sisters, Freda Greenfield and Lee Milliken of Coahoma; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.The family suggests memorials to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Coahoma 79511.3

     Fred Edward York http://www.rootsweb.com/. He was born on 10 December 1895 at Frost, Navarro County, Texas. He was the son of John Thornton York and Mary Hardin. He married Grace Truman Westfall, daughter of William Cyrus Westfall and Theodocia Ernest Lamb, on 12 December 1921 at Coahoma, Howard County, Texas. He and Grace Truman Westfall were were feted for their 50th wedding anniversary. The Big Spring Daily Herald published the following article.

"Fred E. Yorks To Be Feted"

Mr. and Mrs Fred E. York will be honored for their 50th wedding anniversarySunday at their home one mile south of Coahoma. Friends and relatives are invited to call between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Hosting the affair will be their children and families, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. York, Mrs. Freda Greenfield and Mr. and Mrs Bill Milliken all of Coahoma; Mr. and Mrs. Russell Milliken, Midland; and Mr. and Mrs. Don York, O'Donnell. Another son, Lt. Col. Kenneth York and family of Rialto, Calif., will be unable to attend.

Mr. and Mrs. York were married Dec. 13, 1921, in Coahoma. Shortly after that they moved to Frost where he was a barber for four years. In 1926 the couple moved to Westbrook, and he was engaged in farming for 18 years. They returned to Coahoma in 1944 and York barbered there and in Big Spring until his retirement in 1960.

Mrs. York is the former Grace Westfall, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Westfall who were long time residents of Coahoma. She was born in Ira and reared in Coahoma. York is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John York of Frost.

The Yorks are members of the First Baptist Church of Coahoma, where she has taught in the primary department for 25 years. She enjoys sewing and he likes to play dominoes and watch television football games. The couple has 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

For the reception, Mrs. York will wear a light blue dressand will be presented with a white carnation corsage with gold accents. York will be given a matching boutonniere.

Refreshemnts will be served by the couple's granddaughters from a table covered with an Irish linen cloth. A three-tiered wedding cake and Christmas arrangement will center the table, and crystal appointments will be used.

Expected from out-of-town are Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Tate, Tarzan Mr. and Mrs. B. T. Graham, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Hightower, Mr. amd Mrs. F. E. Hightower, Mr. and Mrs. Taft Morris, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Morrow and Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Milliken, all of Midland; Miss Karolyn York, Tucson, Ariz; Miss Joyce York and Kevin Ryan, Alpine; Mrs. J .S. Wellborn and Mrs. Ben Becknell, both of Elysian Fields; Eddie Greenfield and Tim McCullough, both of Dallas.

He died on 23 November 1976 at Coahoma, Howard County, Texas, at age 80.

Big Spring

Services for Fred York, 80, of Big Spring, were to be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Nalley-Pickle Rosewood Chapel in the burial in Coahoma Cemetery with Masonic rites.

He died Tuesday in Coahoma after a sudden illiness.

He was the father of Mrs. Russell Milliken of Midland.

Other survivors include his widow, three sons, two other daughters, 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.1

Freda Grace York Greenfield, 86, of Belton, formerly of Coahoma, died May 12, 2012. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 16 at 10:00 a.m. at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Eddy Pitchford, minister of the Coahoma Church of Christ, officiating. Interment will follow at the Coahoma Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at the funeral home.She was born September 17, 1925 in Frost, Texas. She moved with her family at an early age to Westbrook and then lived in Coahoma for many years. She was employed at the Big Spring State Hospital in the Occupational Therapy Department. She attended the Sand Springs Church of Christ until she moved to McAllen and later to Belton to be close to her sons. She is survived by two sons, Bennie Greenfield of McAllen and Eddie Greenfield and wife, Michele of Belton; nine grandchildren, Sonya, Lynda Gayl, Karlina, Rick, Paula, Lynn, Buck, Reagan, Powers and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Lee Milliken of Coahoma; a sister-in-law, Clara York of Coahoma; brother-in-law and sisters-in law, Dennis and Willie Mae Greenfield of Sand Springs and Margaret Greenfield of Sterling City. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Grace York; a daughter-in-law, Jessica Greenfield; a brother, William "Bill" Ansel York; and a sister, Nelda Jo Milliken. She was also preceded in death by Kenneth York and Don York, cousins raised by her parents.Pallbearers will be grandsons, Rick Greenfield, Buck Greenfield, Powers Greenfield and nephews, Bruce Milliken, Joe Milliken, Mark Milliken, Tommy Morrow and Guy White.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
