     Josiah Young Loflin was also known as Joseph H. in several records. One can only speculate as to why. It appears that he began using the alternate name during the Civil War as many transcribed records list him as Joseph H. That includes Prisoner of War records of him living in Maury County, Tennessee, but having served with the 9th Texas.² He was born on 16 April 1843 at Maury County, Tennessee, The 1860 census lists Josiah's birth state as Georgia.^1,3,4 He was the son of Joseph Loflin and Elizabeth Cathey.⁵ He began military service on 8 October 1861 at Tarrant County, Texas. He was mustered in as a Private in Company G, 9th Regiment, Texas Infantry at Camp Rusk in Lamar County, Texas on 1 Dec 1861.⁶ He reported by the surgeon as being absent due to illness in October 1863 at Meridian, Lauderdale County, Mississippi.⁶ He took the Oath of Amnesty on 16 January 1865 at Columbia, Maury County, Tennessee.⁶ He married Sarah Catherine Hines on 31 March 1865 at Maury County, Tennessee.^1,7 He ended military service on 4 July 1865 at Columbia, Maury County, Tennessee, when records indicate that he was released as a prisoner of war.² He died on 23 June 1916 at Coleman, Coleman County, Texas, at age 73.³

     Karen M. Loflin is the daughter of George Raymond Loflin and Margaret Ellen Hartigan.¹ She married Michael Roy Gipson on 5 April 1975 at Fresno County, California.²

     Laura L. Loflin was born on 30 September 1963 at Fresno County, California.^1,2 She was the daughter of George Raymond Loflin and Margaret Ellen Hartigan.^1,2 She died circa 16 January 1982 at Fresno County, California.¹

     Leon Loflin was born on 10 October 1931 at Taylor County, Texas.¹ He was the son of J.T. Loflin and Rachel Lee Colclazer.^1,2 He was one of the boxers, in a fund raising match for the FFA chapter's cooperative feeding program, against Bob Sargent on 20 May 1949 at Caruthers, Fresno County, California.³ He died on 17 October 1994 at Munich, Free State of Bavaria, at age 63.^4,5

     Malinda J. Loflin was born circa 1840 at Maury County, Tennessee.¹ She was the daughter of Joseph Loflin and Elizabeth Cathey.¹

     Mary Ellen Loflin is the daughter of George Raymond Loflin and Margaret Ellen Hartigan.¹

     Minnie Loflin was born after 1902 at Texas.¹ She was the daughter of Pless Washington Loflin and Julia Ibra Asberry.¹

     Monia Inez Loflin was born on 29 January 1910 at Coleman County, Texas.^1,2 She was the daughter of William David Loflin and Mary Thomas Asberry.¹ She married Rochell Howard, son of Olen David Howard and Annie Clementine Brinson, on 5 March 1941 at Lovington, Lea County, New Mexico.^1,3 She died on 22 November 2004 at O'Donnell, Lynn County, Texas, at age 94.¹


Mrs. Monia Inez Howard, 94, was born Jan. 29, 1910 in Coleman, to the late Mr. and Mrs. William David and Mary Asberry Loflin. She passed away Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at her home in O'Donnell. She attended school in Taylor County.

She married Rochell Howard March 5, 1941 in Lovington, N.M. He preceded her in death June 27, 2003. Mrs. Howard was a longtime resident of O'Donnell, who traveled during her retirement. She was a retired florist and a Baptist.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Kay Mires of O'Donnell; a sister, Ollie Pearl Rice of Fresno, Calif; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Services for Mrs. Howard will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at the White Funeral Home in O'Donnell with the Rev. Jim Stephens and the Rev. Scott Hensley officiating. Internment will follow in the Plainview Cemetery in Dawson County.

Arrangements are under the personal care of White Funeral Home of Tahoka.⁴

     Ollie Pearl Loflin is the daughter of William David Loflin and Mary Thomas Asberry.¹ She married Roy Paxton Rice circa 1942 at USA.²

     Pless Washington Loflin also went by the name of Wash.² He was born on 8 April 1873 at Tennessee.¹ He was the son of Josiah Young Loflin and Sarah Catherine Hines.³ He married Julia Ibra Asberry, daughter of Thomas B. Asberry and Marguerete Jane Luellen, on 4 August 1897 at Coleman County, Texas.^1,4 He died on 31 March 1939 at Joshua, Johnson County, Texas, at age 65.^1,5
