KERMAN - Services for Iris Ozell Pittman, 69, of Kerman will be held today at 11 a.m. at Bragg & Sons Chapel in Kerman. Burial will be at Fresno Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Pittman dies Saturday.

Surviving are a son, Bill of Fresno; a daughter, Oza Jones of Livermore; a brother, J.T. Loflin of Caruthers; four sisters, Pearl Rice of Fresno, Gladys Vallandingham of Los Banos, Ethel Blake of San Jose and Mona Howard of Texas; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.²

     J.T. Loflin was born on 20 October 1907 at Texas.^1,2 He was the son of William David Loflin and Mary Thomas Asberry.¹ He married Rachel Lee Colclazer, daughter of Andrew Lawson Colclazer and Ollie Lee Turner, after 1925.³ He married Loucile Unknown on 20 October 1977 at Fresno County, California.⁴ He died on 12 April 2000 at Selma, Fresno County, California, at age 92.²

J.T. Loflin of Caruthers passed away April 12 in Selma. He was 92 years old at the time of his death.
A funeral for the deceased was held on April 17 at 10 a.m. at the Cavalry Baptist Church in Caruthers with burial following at Washington Colony Cemetery. Page Funeral Chapel in Selma assisted the family with arrangements.
Mr. Loflin was a self-employed farmer for 70 years. He was born in Texas.
Mr. Loflin was preceded in death by his son, Leon Loflin, his granddaughter, Laura Loflin, and his first wife, Rachel Loflin.
He is survived by his spouse, Lucille Loflin of Caruthers; his son, George Loflin of Caruthers; his daughter, Edith Ortenzi of Northridge; his three sisters, Monie Howard of Texas, Ethel Blake of Sonora, and Pearl Rice of Fresno; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.²

     James R. Loflin was born in May 1878 at Texas.¹ He was the son of Josiah Young Loflin and Sarah Catherine Hines.¹

     Janice Marie Loflin is the daughter of George Raymond Loflin and Margaret Ellen Hartigan.¹ She married John A. Slenders on 8 April 1978 at Fresno County, California.³

     Joe Loflin was born circa 1866 at Tennessee.¹ He was the son of Josiah Young Loflin and Sarah Catherine Hines.¹

     John T. Loflin is the son of George Raymond Loflin and Margaret Ellen Hartigan.¹

     Joseph Loflin was born circa 1784 at Georgia.¹ He married Elizabeth Cathey, daughter of Alexander Cathey, on 6 November 1837 at Maury County, Tennessee; Elizabeth's surname is listed as Chambers, probably from a previous marriage.^1,2

     Josiah Young Loflin was also known as Joseph H. in several records. One can only speculate as to why. It appears that he began using the alternate name during the Civil War as many transcribed records list him as Joseph H. That includes Prisoner of War records of him living in Maury County, Tennessee, but having served with the 9th Texas.² He was born on 16 April 1843 at Maury County, Tennessee, The 1860 census lists Josiah's birth state as Georgia.^1,3,4 He was the son of Joseph Loflin and Elizabeth Cathey.⁵ He began military service on 8 October 1861 at Tarrant County, Texas. He was mustered in as a Private in Company G, 9th Regiment, Texas Infantry at Camp Rusk in Lamar County, Texas on 1 Dec 1861.⁶ He reported by the surgeon as being absent due to illness in October 1863 at Meridian, Lauderdale County, Mississippi.⁶ He took the Oath of Amnesty on 16 January 1865 at Columbia, Maury County, Tennessee.⁶ He married Sarah Catherine Hines on 31 March 1865 at Maury County, Tennessee.^1,7 He ended military service on 4 July 1865 at Columbia, Maury County, Tennessee, when records indicate that he was released as a prisoner of war.² He died on 23 June 1916 at Coleman, Coleman County, Texas, at age 73.³

     Karen M. Loflin is the daughter of George Raymond Loflin and Margaret Ellen Hartigan.¹ She married Michael Roy Gipson on 5 April 1975 at Fresno County, California.²

     Laura L. Loflin was born on 30 September 1963 at Fresno County, California.^1,2 She was the daughter of George Raymond Loflin and Margaret Ellen Hartigan.^1,2 She died circa 16 January 1982 at Fresno County, California.¹
