Eaton was born at USA.1 He married Mary Ann Jones on 26 November 1863 at New Bethel, Marion County, Indiana.1,2 He was drafted into military service on 9 December 1864 at Terra Haute, Vigo County, Indiana, as a private in Company G of the 29th Infantry Regiment of the Indiana Volunteers.1 He ended military service on 30 March 1865 due to his death at Nashville, Davidson County, Indiana.1 He died on 30 March 1865 at Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee.1 The cause of death for John W. Eaton was chronic diarrhea due to exposure on 30 March 1865.1
