Funeral services for James Weldon Shuler, 80, of Sweetwater, will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, at Lamar Street Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Payne officiating.
Burial will follow at Roscoe Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb.
18, 2010, at McCoy Funeral Home.
Shuler died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, at Nolan Nursing and Rehab in Sweetwater.
He was born June 25, 1929, in Burleson. He married Genevieve French Sept. 16, 1950, in Roscoe. He was a member of Lamar Street Baptist Church and had worked of the U. S.
Post Office for 32 years as an office clerk and a carrier, retiring in 1987.
Shuler graduated from Roscoe High School in May 1948, and attended Hardin Simmons University. He also worked eight years for U. S Gypsum Company. He has lived in Sweetwater since 1950. Shuler also served in the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife Genevieve Shuler of Sweetwater; two sons, Calvin Shuler and wife Susan of Wylie, Texas and Joe Shuler of League City, Texas; two daughters, Karen Miller and husband Harold of Saginaw, Texas and Kimberly Lyons of Irving; one brother, Lawrence Shuler and wife Brenda of London, Texas; three sisters, Dorothy Heath of San Antonio, Donna Barfield of Kerrville and Doris Shuler of London, Texas; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Henrietta Shuler; and a brother, Ernest Shuler.
Pallbearers will be Dale Finch, Donald Kite, Norman Massey, Sam Young, Jack Kennedy, Clifford Ashley and Johnny Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Burton, Bud Smith, Ray Cornutt, Gary Harger, Donnie Rannefeld, Daryl Mullican and special fiend, Jake Burton (a little boy).
Memorials may be made to Lamar Street Baptist Church, 513 Lamar Street, Sweetwater, TX 79556.
