'Marlboro' Cowboy Drowns at Ranch
Carl B. (Bigun) Bradley Jr., 37, a rugged-looking cowhand who had been featured in advertisements for the Marlboro Tobacco Co., drowned accidentally on the Bill Flowers Ranch near Old Glory when the horse he was riding apparently panicked and plunged into a stock tank.
Flowers organized a search when Bradley, last seen about 3 p.m. Monday, had not returned to the ranch house by sunset. The horse's body was found floating in the tank shortly after dark.
Law enforcement offices from 10 area towns, led by Stonewall County Sheriff Marvin Crawford, assisted in dragging the tank to locate the body. Stonewall County Judge Warren Frazier ruled at the scene that the horse fell, knocking Bradley unconscious and causing him to drown.
Born Feb. 9, 1973, in Know City, Bradley graduated from high school there in 1956.
At the time the cigarette commercils were filmed, he was wagon boss for the 6666 Ranch where he had worked since the age of 14. He and his family had lived miles north of Old Glory for the past several months.
Funeral was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Knox City. Burial was in Knox City Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, the former Glena Jo Reese, a son, Carl, of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs, Carl B. Bradley of Knox City; and a brother, Doug, of Seymour.3
