Elizabeth Crawford Vawter1

     Elizabeth Crawford Vawter was also known as Robert Crawford Vawter, a pen name she used as a columnist for The Evening Star newspaper in Washington D.C.2 Elizabeth Crawford Vawter also went by the name of Bettie as a young girl.3 She was born circa 1866 at Kentucky.3 She was the daughter of Philemon Vawter and Marth Anne Humphreys.2,3 She married Hon. William Alfred Milliken, son of Rev. Leonard Hugh Milliken and Mary Lavinia Moody, on 18 June 1894 at Washington, District of Columbia.1 She died on 20 June 1948 at Washington, District of Columbia.2

Mrs. Milliken Funeral To Be Held Tomorrow

Funeral services for Mrs. Robert Crawford Vawter Milliken, mother of Capt. Rhoda J. Milliken chief of the Women's Bureau of the Police Department, will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Rock Creek Parish. Burial will be in Rock Creek Cemetery.
Mrs. Milliken died unexpectly Sunday night in her home. 3315 N street N.W. She had been in ill health for some time.
She was the window of Judge William Alfred Milliken, an attorney, who at one time was the dean of Vanderbilt University law school. She and her husband came to Washington in the early 1900s, when he was solicitor for the Post Office Department. He died more than 16 years ago.
Mrs. Milliken, who used the pen name Robert Crawford, wrote a column, "Tales of Well-known Folk," which appeared in the Sunday Star For more than 10 years. She stopped writing the column about six years ago. She was a member of the American Newspaper Women's Club.
Mrs. Milliken was born in Kentucky, the daughter of the late Rev. Philemon Vawter, a minister of the Christian Church. Her sister, the late Sallie V. H. Pickett, was society editor of The Star at one time.
Mrs. Milliken lived with her two daughters, Capt. Milliken and Miss Elizabeth Milliken, her only immediate survivors, at the N street address.2
