Death of Prosper Lebou

Prosper Lebou died Wednesday morning, the 26th inst., at the home of his son, John Lebou, in Vergennes. Death took place about 8:00 o'clock and the deceased was about 64 years of age. He was born in West Berkshire and came to Vergennes in 1845, aged about eight years, and has resided here ever since. Three sons, William Lebou of Keene, N. H., John and Eugene Lebou of Vergennes, survive him, together with four daughters, Mrs. Alfred Corio, of New Bedford, Mass., Mrs. Louis Lavarn and Mrs. Charles Trudeau of Vergennes and Miss Elizabeth Lebou of Middlebury. A sister, Mrs. Robert Plude of Vergennes, also mourn his loss.
Mr. Lebou was a hard working man and in his prime could best some pretty good men in feats of manual labor. He was a great fisherman and knew the finny tribe of Otter Creek and Lake Champlain to perfection. He was also in great demand at impromptu dances and parties as a fiddler, which instrament he played with much spirit, although he had no musical training. Probably no citizen of Vergennes was better known about the district. The funeral will take place Friday, the 28th inst., at 9:00 a.m. from St. Peter's church.1
